Where the numbers come from.
The sources and limits behind the map, floor plans and housing statistics.
Capacities and history
Published capacities come from Richmond Residence Life. They are not live occupancy, available rooms or housing lottery odds. UFA and Gateway totals describe communities with multiple buildings. Missing capacities are left out of comparisons, not treated as zero.
Historical facts link to their sources beside each hall and question. A construction date is not necessarily an opening date. Source records were collected October 19, 2026.
Room sizes
The comparison shows the source-derived room drawings used in the hall explorer, including visible doors, closets and wall openings. Drawings retain their proportions. Published dimensions provide an approximate scale only when they agree with the main room region’s proportions; other drawings are labeled illustrations without a shared scale. The numerical area comparison uses published length × width, not a measurement of the irregular outline or usable floor area.
Only unambiguous dimension pairs are included. Missing, irregular or suspect measurements and explicitly identified staff or accessible rooms are excluded from this particular comparison. That does not mean those rooms are unavailable.
The map and building models
Locations come from the university campus map. Building footprints and surrounding paths come from OpenStreetMap contributors. Models are illustrations informed by those footprints and reference images, not architectural surveys. Floor drawings have their own source notes.
The optional housing guide follows published population and program rules. It highlights possible matches, not guaranteed assignments. Confirm current eligibility and availability with Housing.
